April 2010 Archives

The online Student Instructional Rating Survey ends on Monday, May 3rd for most courses. Students who do not respond by the end of the day will not be able to participate in the student ratings.

We encourage all students to participate in the survey. Your comments help faculty to improve the courses and their teaching methods, and the ratings assist the Rutgers administration in decisions about tenure and promotion. To participate, sign in at http://sakai.rutgers.edu then click "All Surveys". If you don't have a Rutgers login, go here to create a NetID.

Faculty who want to increase their response rate should send an email to their students before Monday. Expressing your personal interest in the survey results can help persuade your students to reply.

For the majority of courses, the online Student Instructional Rating Survey (SIRS) began at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20. Students received emails asking them to participate, provided they have a valid email address in their student records. The survey ends on May 3 at 11:59 p.m.

Students who want to rate their instructors may do so by going to http://sakai.rutgers.edu, logging in, and clicking All Surveys.

Some courses in Camden and New Brunswick are still using the paper survey process; students in these courses must complete the survey in class.

The Opscan 6 Scanner will no longer be available for scanning exams after September 1, 2010. The Center is replacing it with a new Apperson BenchMark 3000 Scanner, which is easier to use and maintain.

The Opscan 6 will be available for use for the rest of this term, Spring 2010, and through the Summer Session 2010. The Apperson BenchMark 3000 Scanner is available for use now. For those interested in transitioning to using this new scanner, contact us about Apperson forms.

As of September 1, 2010, the Apperson BenchMark 3000 Scanner will be the only test scanner available at CTAAR.

Those who own forms for the Opscan 6 should use them before we decommission the scanner; the forms will not work in the Apperson BenchMark 3000 Scanner. Forms for the new scanner can be purchased through the Apperson Store

If any school or department is interested in taking ownership of the Opscan 6, we would be happy to make it available to them after September 1, 2010. Please notify Monica Devanas or Maria Brewer at CTAAR using the email address info@please take this out before mailing ctaar.rutgers.edu of this interest before August 15, 2010. As of that date we will make arrangements to remove the Opscan 6 Scanner and return it to Scantron.

All faculty and instructors who are using the online version of the Student Instructional Rating Survey should have received an email on Tuesday, March 30 or Wednesday, March 31 informing them of the survey details.

If you did not receive an email, and you are not using the paper surveys, please contact the Center for Teaching Advancement and Assessment Research by phone (732-932-7466) or email info@please remove this before mailing ctaar.rutgers.edu to verify that we have created your survey and have your correct email address.
