Easy Data From Online Tools to Support Student Success (Virtual Interactive Workshop) (A CTAAR/OIT Collaboration)

Users of Canvas, Kaltura, PlayPosit, Zoom, and Gradescope might not be aware of available data that could assist in understanding student engagement, learning, and success. We will present an overview of the data available, best practices, and limitations, and will give you an opportunity to look at and interpret the analytics in one of the tools you use. SoTL Round Table (Virtual Interactive Workshop)

Thursday, Feb 17th 2 - 3:30 pm

In this meeting of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Round Table, we hear about published SoTL work from our community, share our progress on ongoing research projects, and provide space to develop new ideas and collaborations. In this workshop, special guest Dr. John Kerrigan will tell us about a successful SoTL project on transitioning active learning in engagement based introductory STEM courses. Gamify My Course! (Virtual Interactive Presentation) (A CTAAR/GRID Collaboration)

Thursday, March 3, 2022, 10:00am-11:30am

Are you looking to shake things up while engaging, motivating, and inspiring your students? In this session we explore how instructors can use "gamification," the process of bringing elements of game design such as competition, scoring, and fun into course design and using them to reinforce learning goals. These options range from single class session activities, to semester-long motivation games, and from simple technology-free activities, to augmented reality worlds. Ready Patient One? An Online Choose Your Own Adventure Escape Room Game for Medical Education (Virtual Presentation)

Thursday March 24th from 1:30-2:30

In this session, special guest Dr. Colleen Donovan from RBHS shares her innovative online educational game design and scholarship of teaching and learning research project (link to complete abstract). Even if you don't work in the sciences or medicine, we hope you will consider attending this session to see an example educational game that has potential to add something meaningful to a course in any discipline.  At the end of the fall 2021 term, CTAAR surveyed instructors about their experiences teaching and added additional student questions pertaining to online learning to the Student Instructional Ratings Survey. In this presentation (Thursday, January 13, 2022, 10:00am-11:30am) we will share statistical and qualitative analysis of the Fall 2021 Instructor Teaching Experience Survey and analysis of the additional questions added to the Student Instructional Ratings Survey. The results of the Fall 2021 Student Instructional Rating Surveys (SIRS) are now available to most faculty and department administrators. To retrieve survey results, log in to the Blue survey site, scroll down to the "Reports" section and click the link for the Fall 2021 semester.  Department administrators will also have access to a spreadsheet report that compiles the numeric results for all courses in the department. 

SIRS results for some schools are released on a delayed schedule:

• Rutgers Business School (School 22 - MBA) - SIRS will be available on January 12, after 2:00 pm
• Law (Schools 23 and 24) - SIRS will be available on January 23, after 2:00 pm

Due to the transition to remote learning, in some cases lectures may not have been correctly identified and SIRS results were reported for each section separately instead of as a lecture group. If you need your SIRS report regenerated to properly reflect the lecture instead of the individual sections, please write to us at ctaar@docs.rutgers.edu

The numeric portion of the results will be posted for the university community in March 2022.
